HELP / BROWSER EDITION
NetSurvey in practice.
Get started
- Create a project and import a PNG/JPEG floor plan. Replacing a plan removes its points only after confirmation; export first.
- Click the image or enter normalized X/Y coordinates (0–1), then choose Place point. Enter actual supplied RSSI, SSID, band and channel; Save manual reading.
- Select an SSID. With at least three readings, enable IDW estimates; black markers remain actual manual inputs.
- Add APs under AP inventory. Export JSON for restoration, CSV for all readings or PNG for a labeled visualization. Import creates a separate project copy.
What works here
- Browser-local projects with PNG/JPEG floor plans, manual normalized point placement and supplied RSSI readings.
- Per-SSID measured-point visualization, RSSI chart and descriptive statistics.
- Bounded inverse-distance heatmap estimates with a three-point minimum and a visible interpolation label.
- Manual AP inventory with MAC/band/channel validation; informational channel-center frequency reference.
- Versioned web JSON project backup/restore, all-measurement CSV and labeled floor-plan/heatmap PNG export.
Storage & privacy
Versioned localStorage holds project data and embedded floor-plan images. There is no cloud sync. Floor plans, SSIDs and MAC addresses may reveal infrastructure details; protect downloaded exports.
Limits to know
- No live Wi-Fi scan, RSSI capture, Android APIs, connected-AP signal meter, noise floor, SNR, throughput or airtime measurement.
- One floor plan per project, 20 projects, 500 points and 100 APs per project. Floor plans: 1 MiB / 10 megapixels; project backups: 4 MiB.
- Interpolation uses only the selected SSID and is an estimate. SSID-sharing APs are combined; it is not per-BSSID coverage, a wall model or verified site coverage.
- Browser-local storage is quota-limited. Export backups before clearing browser data or moving devices. Large projects may exceed browser quota; an error is shown without discarding tab data.
- Web JSON backup is not the Android .netsurvey ZIP format. Multi-floor calibration, native ZIP/PDF reports and AP propagation planning are not implemented.
- Channel availability varies by regulatory region and equipment. Reference tables are not transmission authorization or spectrum measurements.
The original application
The original repository remains the reference for native features. Private repositories and their releases require authorized GitHub access.
